Part 3 of 8 – A Bible Study on the Beatitudes in Matthew, Chapter 5
Blessed is He Who Comes In the Name of the Lord
Welcome to part 3 of an 8 part study. If you have not read Part 1 and 2, please take time to do so, as each of the beatitudes build upon one another. Part 1 is the foundation!
The Sermon on the Mount is a very profound teaching and message by our Messiah, Jesus Christ (Yeshua). In this season, it is important to recognize, understand, and apply the divine order of these blessings. They are key for the Royal Priesthood in the Kingdom of God (Yahweh).
Below are the beatitudes in the order Jesus spoke them in Matthew, Chapter 5:
- Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
- Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
- Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
- Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.
- Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
- Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
- Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God.
- Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed Are The Meek, For They Shall Inherit The Earth
The Hebrew definition of Meek is – (humble, modest, lenient (patient))
Let’s recap the order thus far:
1. Poor and contrite spirit – Making the decision to come before the Lord and follow Him by committing our lives to Him and serve no other God. Be baptized and repent from our old ways. (In other words, bending down to Jesus)
2. Mourn and be comforted – Confess our sins, acknowledge that we are wretched and wicked without Jesus and that He alone is the way, the truth and life. Invite the Holy Spirit to rule and reign and bring comfort to us.
Can you see the momentum starting to build?
Jesus is sharing this beatitude in the sense of both the importance of humble submission to Christ and patience. We all hear of the importance of humility in our walk with Jesus the Messiah. But what does this really mean and how does it lead to inheriting the earth? Grab your Bible and let’s study the scriptures.
This third blessing illustrates the importance of seeking and submitting to the teachings of Jesus Christ, our Messiah, and the patience to trust and wait upon him. Let’s read this again:
This third blessing illustrates the importance of seeking and submitting to the teachings of Jesus Christ, our Messiah, and the patience to trust and wait upon him.
Psalm 37 is a wonderful detail of what this divine order of blessing encompasses. Read the entire Psalm on your own, but join with me here in the first 11 verses. The Psalm has been titled, “The Heritage of the Righteous and the Calamity of the Wicked.” Read through the verses and then go back and read the bold emphasis’.
Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on his faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass. He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.
Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret-it only causes harm.
For evildoers shall be cut off; but those who wait on the Lord, they shall inherit the earth. For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more; Indeed you will look carefully for his place, but it shall be no more. But the meek shall inherit the earth, and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. (emphasis mine)
Can you see the revelation of meekness here? It is the key to the strength in the Lord. And the Key to the strength is to wait upon the Lord and do not fret. When we place our uncompromising trust in Jesus and commit our ways to Him only, life on this earth becomes full of the abundance of peace and joy. It is only in His name and our identity in Him that this blessing comes. We also begin to understand the scripture in Matthew 7:13 where Jesus says, “Enter through the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.”
Another Psalm to read is Psalm 25.
Psalm 25:4-13
Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wail all the day.
Remember, O Lord, Your tender mercies and Your loving kindnesses, for they are from of old. Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions. According to Your mercy remember me, for Your goodness sake, O Lord.
Good and upright is the Lord; therefore He teaches sinners in the way. The humble He guides in justice, and the humble He teaches His way. All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth, to such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.
For Your name’s sake, O Lord, pardon my iniquity, for it is great. Who is the man that fears the Lord? Him shall He teach in the way He chooses. He himself shall dwell in prosperity, and his descendants shall inherit the earth.
Let us conclude this study of the third Beatitude with the below scripture:
Zephaniah 2:1-3
Gather yourselves together, yes, gather together, O undesirable nation, before the decree is issued or the day passes like chaff. Before the Lord’s fierce anger comes upon you! Seek the Lord, all you meek of the earth, who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness, seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden in the day of the Lord’s anger.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Yes Lord!
It is my hope that you are beginning to hunger and thirst for Righteousness so that you may be billed. See you soon as we move on to Part 4.

I have recently been taken on an incredible journey to unfold yet another key to the Kingdom of Yah (God), and what is really amazing is how my journey was a prelude to a piece of revelation that would come via another brother, in Christ, who has also recently been taken on a journey and given revelation knowledge that would connect with my journey. God orchestrated it in His perfect timing. We had not seen our brother in about eight years. Yet, at the time it pleased the Father, we reconnected and he asked if he could come to Idaho for a visit and share what the Holy Spirit has revealed to him. Not knowing what it was he was going to share, I was amazed at the iron sharpening the iron after the first evening. Thank you, Jesus!
