Part 6 of 8 – A Bible Study on the Beatitudes in Matthew, Chapter 5
Blessed Are The Pure In Heart, For They Shall See God
Greetings and welcome back to the bible study of the Beatitudes. If you are new to this blog series, you are encouraged to go back to Part 1 of 8 and begin your study, as the Beatitudes Jesus, our Messiah, taught on during his Sermon on the Mount have a divine order upon which our house is to be built. That house is us, for we are called to be a holy tabernacle unto Him. Thus far, we have covered the first five:
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
I don’t know where you are in your walk with Christ Jesus, but it is here that I proclaim that no one can come to the Father except through his Son, Jesus. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and he stands at the door of our hearts knocking right at this very minute. If there is anyone who will open the door and let Him in, He will come. This Jesus is the only one who died on the cross and shed His blood for the sins of mankind. This Jesus is the only one who God raised from the dead on the third day to bring hope to mankind. This resurrection had to be so that you and I could also have a resurrection life from sin and death into the blessings and a life of eternity with Him.
The Apostle Paul understood this and this is what he meant when he said in Galatians 2:20:
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
We live in a season where everything we have known to be true is being shaken. We have kept our eyes focused on things of this world and now the world can see it crumbling before our very eyes. It is only through a strong and faithful relationship with our King, Jesus Christ, that we will be able to stand through the shaking on this Earth. God is testing our heart and where the allegiance of our heart truly is.
In Hebrew, the word Pure means (innocent, unadulterated, straight, absolute)
God, in Hebrew, is Yhwh – pronounced Yahweh. Also, Elohim – Def. (the Living God)
Jesus in Hebrew is Y’shua – pronounced Yeshua – Def. (to rescue, to deliver)
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
David had an intimate relationship with the Living God. He understood the struggles of life, what it was like to be hated and fear for his life. He understood the pain of being betrayed by his own children, what it was like to lead a nation with integrity and honor unto Yah, and what it was like to fall captive to his fleshly desires. We are told that he had a heart after the heart of God the Father. In fact, David’s heart was so pure in the eyes of the Father that God promised there would be one on the throne forever more from David’s bloodline. Each generation of kings failed miserably in doing what was right in the eyes of God until the birth of Jesus. Jesus would be the One on the throne of God forever more.
Psalm 15:
Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill?
He who walks uprightly, and works righteousness, and speaks the truth in his heart; He who does not backbite with his tongue, nor does evil to his neighbor, nor does he take up a reproach against his friend; In whose eyes a vile person is despised, but he honors those who fear the Lord; He who swears to his own hurt and does not change; he who does not put out his money as usury, nor does he take a bribe against the innocent.
He who does these things shall never be moved.
Psalm 24:
The earth is the Lord’s and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein. For He has founded it it upon the seas, and established it upon the waters. Who may stand in His holy place?
He who has clean hands and pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, who seek Your face.
Jesus was and is the One that King David and all the prophets of the old testament spoke of as the coming Messiah and the true King of kings. Jesus came and demonstrated through his life and teachings of how to walk with a pure heart. Only He can deliver us from our sinful nature.
Just as David had a heart after the Father, so shall we once we present ourselves unto Him as a living sacrifice. Who or what has your heart? Is there a lock on it due to hurt and unforgiveness? Or does pride and arrogance keep you held in captivity from your relationship with God through Christ Jesus because you believe you have full control over every aspect of your life. Where is your allegiance?
We read in John 1 that “in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the word was God. He was in the beginning with God.” If we put Him and His word first, the order that follows will produce a pure heart within.
John 8:19
Then they said to Him, “Where is your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also.”
Hebrews 10:19-22
Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
Before we move on the Part 7 of 8 of this study, below is a recap of each of the Beatitudes thus far. It is my hope that you will continue the study with me to the end of part 8.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Amen.
1. Poor and contrite spirit inherits the kingdom of heaven – Making the decision to come before the Lord and follow Him by committing our lives to Him and serve no other God. Be baptized and repent from our old ways. (In other words, bending down to Jesus)
2. Mourn and be comforted – Confess our sins, acknowledge that we are wretched and wicked without Jesus and that He alone is the way, the truth and life. Invite the Holy Spirit to rule and reign over our heart, mind, and soul, and bring comfort to us.
3. Be Meek and inherit the earth – Be submissive to the Word of God and wait patiently upon Him. Be teachable in the word of God. The Holy Spirit of Truth will lead you into revelation knowledge and what it means to walk in your spiritual birthright here on earth.
4. Hunger and thirst for righteousness and be filled – Be honest and have moral principles, walk in integrity, justice, fairness, and give all the glory and honor to God. For it is He who judges the hearts of man. Desire to know Jesus more than temporal things of this world. Ask Him to show you His ways and you will be filled with peace.
5. Be Merciful and obtain mercy – Make sure that that your heart does not carry any unforgiveness in it. If you struggle in this area, cry out for the Holy Spirit to help you in this area. When Jesus died on the cross, he cried out and said (about those who wanted him dead), “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.”
6. Be Pure in heart and see God – Stand on the Word of God – both the Rhema (spoken) and Logos (written) word. Do not waiver and be tossed to and fro with any other doctrines. Seek daily the righteousness of Jesus and walk in it. Do not be deceived or compromise your relationship with God the Father, God the Son, Jesus, and God the Holy Spirit at any cost. (this is idolatry and he does not share his glory with any other). Keep your hands clean and your thoughts and actions pure based upon Him and His word. Seek to honor the Father in all things.
