Fruit of the Spirit

A Pillar In The House Of Yahweh

Welcome, and greetings to you in the name of Yeshua HaMashiach! We pray the Holy Spirit will bless you with all spiritual wisdom, understanding, and revelation knowledge so that you may walk worthy of Yahweh in the calling He has for your life.

When we hear the phrase Fruit of the Spirit, most people tend to think of Galatians 5:22-23, but they also tend to stop short of finishing the paragraph through verse 26.

Galatians 5:22-26 – 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering (patience), kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

In this post, we are going to take a closer look at what spiritual fruit is and how it is applicable in our everyday life for the glory of Yahweh and His kingdom come, His will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. We will also look at spiritual fruit from the stand point of it being one of the seven pillars in which Wisdom has built her house and has hewn out her seven pillars. This post is related to a previous post called “T.R.A.S.H. Talk, The Command To Build God’s House.” Click on link to read the full blog post. For those of you new to this website, T.R.A.S.H. is an acronym for ‘Truly Redeemed And Sanctified In Him’

Proverbs 9:1-6 – 1Wisdom has built her house, She has hewn out her seven pillars;
2She has slaughtered her meat, She has mixed her wine, She has also furnished her table.
3She has sent out her maidens, She cries out from the highest places of the city,
4“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!”
As for him who lacks understanding,
She says to him, 5“Come, eat of my bread
And drink of the wine I have mixed. 6Forsake foolishness and live, And go in the way of understanding.

The number Seven in scripture represents completeness so when we read “Wisdom has built her house and hewn out her seven pillars” we can see determine there is a completed work accomplished.

We would be remiss to not reveal our Redeemer, Yeshua HaMashiach, in the above scripture, especially for those who have not considered or understood its meaning.

  • Wisdom represents Yeshua and the second of the Seven Spirits of Yahweh which rests upon him. (see Isaiah 11:1-2 – Spirit of the Lord, wisdom, understanding, counsel, knowledge, might, & fear of the Lord).
  • Slaughtered her meat and has mixed her wine represents a feast or festival of celebration in the works. We know Yeshua is the Passover Lamb who fulfilled the feast of Passover and feast of Unleavened Bread, but here we see He is preparing for a feast and has furnished the table representing the Marriage feast of the Bridegroom and His bride. Notice He does not say she is serving the meat and wine but rather getting things ready.
  • Verses 4 – 6 represent the invitation is open to all who will come and sup with Him, with simple meaning those who are humble and meek versus haughty. Yeshua is the Bread of Life and in Him we have the gift of eternal life.
  • Bread and wine represent Yeshua’s sustenance and abundant happiness. Yeshua is the Way, the Truth, and the Bread of Life. All who seek Him will gain wisdom and understanding.

Revelation 19:6-9 – 6And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns! 7Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.” 8And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.

9Then he said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’ ” And he said to me, “These are the true sayings of God.”

Yeshua also spoke of this hour in His Parable of the Wedding Feast:

Matthew 22:1-14 – 1And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said: 2“The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, 3and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come. 4Again, he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding.” ’ 5But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business. 6And the rest seized his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them. 7But when the king heard about it, he was furious. And he sent out his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. 8Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. 9Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.’ 10So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.

11“But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. 12So he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. 13Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

14“For many are called, but few are chosen.”

The Pillar – The Sound Character Of Yeshua HaMashiach

Fruit of the Spirit is the sound character of Yeshua, and it is the hope of glory of Him in you and I being filled with His Spirit so that we too can walk in the Spirit and sound character of Yeshua. He is the true vine and we are the branches designed to be fruitful. Good fruit can only be produced from a pure heart.

The Fruit of the Spirit are the righteous acts of the saints walking in obedience to the voice and word of Yahweh, according to Revelation 19:8. Righteousness is the quality of being honest and having moral principles, walking in integrity, justice, and fairness. It is a gift accounted to those who accept what Yeshua has done in Faith, and this Faith produces fruit. Yahweh is Righteous beyond our mortal and carnal comprehension, but He sent His only begotten Son, Yeshua, to show us the way we are to live here on earth. While we reside on this earth, we will never compare to the pure holiness of the Three. Until Yeshua’s return or we fall asleep and are given our new body in eternity, we each have a work of faith to do here on earth. Yahweh’s standard of righteousness has been given to all who choose to obey. It is the most rewarding and fulfilling life we can have that brings us peace and glory to the Father.

How Do We Get There?

To understand the how to get there, we must first understand the who, what, and the when.

Galatians 5:22-26 is part of a bigger message Paul was conveying in his letter to the churches of Galatia. This same message is relevant to us today. In short, he was dealing with fairly new converts of whom had came out from either pagan worship of many false gods or Judaism which served Yahweh but had come under bondage of the Mosaic law and regulations they could not keep. (full study on the Book of Galatians available here). All of mankind has fallen short of the grace of Yahweh because we have come out of pagan worship of one form or another or from a legalistic religion that has placed us under bondage. We remain in bondage (even if we think we are not) until such time we truly receive Yeshua as our Lord and Savior and surrender our self unto Him, the Father, and the Holy Spirit. He is our “who”.

The what is Yeshua came to earth as a man child, born from the seed of a woman, but still fully God, as He was conceived through the supernatural miracle of the Holy Spirit. He lived a life with no sin and at the appointed time, at age 30, He began revealing His purpose for coming to earth and He brought a message of hope and the gift of salvation for all who would receive His gift. He offered up His life at the age of 33 to be crucified on a cross, bearing the sins of mankind. He was placed in a tomb for 3 nights and 3 days and then rose from the grave unto eternal life. His unselfish act of obedience to the Father was for one purpose only and that purpose being that we too can have eternal life with Him.

When Yeshua rose from the grave, he remained with his disciples for 40 days, during which time He revealed His ‘risen back to life’ self to hundreds prior to His ascension to the throne of Yahweh. But here is the glorious matter– He told his disciples that He must go so that His Father would send a Comforter, the Spirit of Truth, who would teach us all things. He told them that all authority has been given to Him in heaven and on earth and for His disciples to go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that He has commanded; and that He is with us always, even to the end of the age. This, my beloved is the when and what that brings us to the how.

The Fruit

Yeshua’s resurrection from the dead made Him the firstfruits to eternal life.

1 Corinthians 15:20 – But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. But each one in his own order: Christ, the firstfruits; afterward those who are Christ’s at his coming.

James 1:18 – He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all He created.

Ephesians 2:10 – 10For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Romans 11:16 – If the part of the dough offered as firstfruits is holy, then the whole batch is holy; if the root is holy, so are the branches.

The first thing we learn about the fruit of the Spirit is revealed in Galatians 5:24-26. We must crucify our fleshly passions and desires and live in the Spirit so we can walk in the Spirit. Galatians 5:19-26 outlines many of the lusts of the flesh that prevents one from living in Yeshua and in the Spirit of Yahweh.

Galatians 5:24-26 – 24And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

The How to achieve walking in the fruit of the Spirit begins with the desire and decision to make a change and then begin the process of repentance and walking in faith towards Yahweh.  Repentance is not just a one-time word to pray “Dear Yeshua, I repent for my sins…”. It is a verb requiring action on our part. It is a change of direction, a discipline with many prayers and seeking Him. When we pray with a pure heart, He who begins the work in and through us is Faithful to finish it. At some glorious moment during this time, we will experience the baptism by Holy Spirit and He will fill us with His presence and our sole desire becomes wanting to fulfill His desire in us. The Holy Spirit helps us put off the old man and put on the character of Yeshua through being baptized by the Holy Spirit and living in the Spirit. This is being born again. We can not overcome the works or lusts of our flesh without the Helper and Comforter Holy Spirit. Nor can we overcome them unless we fully realize the finished work on the cross that Yeshua did for us. We develop a relationship with the Father, through the Son and the Holy Spirit and we come to know the word of Yahweh. Learning the word and building a relationship requires time and dedication. The more time we devote, the more we mature and our character begins producing fruit of the Spirit. We know that we are Christ’s and in Him we have crucified our own fleshly passions and desires.

There is no place for being conceited (or thinking more highly of ourselves than we should). We must recognize the spiritual battle, resist the devil, and let the Holy Spirit guide and direct our paths and prayers to overcome the wiles of Satan. You see, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit will not share a residence with the devil. Yeshua addressed a house divided in Matthew 12.

Matthew 12:25-30 – 25But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. 26If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? 27And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. 28But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you. 29Or how can one enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house. 30He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.

One can not serve the kingdom of Yahweh and the kingdom of this world and expect to be able to live and walk in the fruit of the Spirit. The fruit will sour and become bad if there be any fruit at all. Yeshua said that we will know who are His by their fruit. It is a process to grow, nurture, and produce fruit and Yeshua knows this. It is our maturing He is looking for and how we are cultivating our soil for His word to grow deep within us so that we are deeply rooted in Him.

The sound character of Yeshua is the fruit by which He lived and demonstrated while on this earth. We are to live and walk in His sound character and it all begins with Love of the Father for His children.

John 3:16 – 16For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

Love – Beloved, it is only by and through the Holy Spirit that one can begin to experience the pure Love of Yeshua HaMashiach. Once we have encountered that Love, of which there is no greater, then and only then can we love one another as He loves us. Although we may think of love as an emotion, it is actually a state of being, for HE permeates our spirit, soul, and body.

Joy – It is His love dwelling in our very being that we obtain the emotion of joy. You’ve heard that the joy of the Lord is our strength and it is true. Joy is also what we exhibit with praise and worship. When various trials come our way or we are in sorrow or pain, it is difficult to exhibit joy and yet we are told to consider it a joy when we experience various trials and tribulations. This does not mean we are to be giddy about the situation or mourning we are experiencing, but rather we understand that because we are Yeshua’s, we have faith that He will work all things out for His glory and we continue to praise and worship Him. We do not give the devil a foothold into the matter when we continue in the joy of the Lord because He is our strength.

Psalm 95 – 1Oh come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.
2Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.
3For the
Lord is the great God, And the great King above all gods. 4In His hand are the deep places of the earth; The heights of the hills are His also. 5The sea is His, for He made it; And His hands formed the dry land.

6Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.
7For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture, And the sheep of His hand.

Today, if you will hear His voice: 8“Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion,
As in the day of trial in the wilderness, 9When your fathers tested Me; They tried Me, though they saw My work. 10For forty years I was grieved with that generation, And said, ‘It is a people who go astray in their hearts, And they do not know My ways.’ 11So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’ ”

Peace – Joy brings us to another state of being, which is peace…a peace that surpasses all understanding and guards our heart and mind. We know we are not alone in this life, especially when we must endure trials. Even though it may seem like the world or our life is crumbling, we have a peaceful stillness deep within our soul that tells us Yahweh is in full control and He will not leave us nor forsake us.

Romans 15:13 – 13Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Philippians 4:6-7 – 6Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Long-suffering (patience), is an element of character that must be developed and one not easily achieved. We live in a selfish “we want it now” world.” When trials come our way, our faith gets tested.  The testing of our faith produces patience,or long-suffering. There is nothing we can do except pray, have faith and trust in Yeshua, and get through the trial and it’s hard and often painful. This process is part of the baptism of fire where we are refined and purified.  James 1:4 tells us that we must let patience have its perfect work, that we may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. Part of that perfect work results in the virtue of kindness and goodness to others because we generally come out of trials with a better understanding of what it means to walk a mile in one’s shoes and what it really meant to have Yeshua die on the cross for our sins so that we can have eternal life in spite of our weakness.

James 5:7-11 – 7Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. 8You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

9Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door! 10My brethren, take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering and patience. 11Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord—that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.

Kindness – Kindness is the part of our character that stems from love and shows compassion..  Yeshua taught us kindness to help our neighbor and even our enemy and give them food if they are hungry, or care for those in need, take care of the sick, clothe the naked, etc. We do not repay evil with evil.

Ephesians 4:31-32 – 31Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

Goodness – Goodness, very close to kindness, is a state of being ministering the character of the love of Yeshua to others in Yahweh’s divine way and timing. Yeshua taught us goodness is doing the will of the Father and our conduct being worthy of the calling to which He has called us.  He is the perfect example of different aspects of kindness and goodness. His kindness was of perfect moral character. Out of our reverence for Him, we are to exemplify to others the same goodness he does for us. Because of His goodness, He was able to challenge His enemies by asking, “Can any of you prove me guilty of sin?” (John 8:46)

Romans 2:4-6 – 4Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? 5But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6who “will render to each one according to his deeds”: 7eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality;

Romans 11:16-22 –16For if the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches. 17And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree, 18do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you.

19You will say then, “Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in.” 20Well said. Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be haughty, but fear. 21For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either. 22Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off.

Faithfulness – Faithfulness is a gift from Yahweh that can not be produced by people. It is Yah’s divine persuasion of His will for each of us—one that is poured out in measure and is to continually increase so we can know and abide in His perfect will. We have seen His faithfulness come to pass over and over again because He is true to His word. Yeshua was faithful to Him who appointed Him even unto death. In faith, we are obedient to His word. In faithfulness our salvation is justified because the just shall live by faith. In faithfulness we use the gifts of the Spirit He has given us for His glory.

Matthew 25:20-21 – 20“So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’ 21His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’

Romans 12:3-8 – 3For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. 4For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. 6Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; 8he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

Gentleness – Gentleness, is the character of humility or meekness. There is no conceit or envy and no works of iniquity. Gentleness is delighting in Yeshua and His abundance of grace. Gentleness is the key to our strength when we allow Him to guide us in justice, teach us His way, so we can keep His commandments and His testimonies. Jesus taught us that the Meek shall inherit the earth (see study on Beatitudes). We must remain humble and gracious, not thinking any higher of ourselves than we ought, love one another, be fruitful and multiply His love on earth.

Philippians 4:4-9 – 4Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! 5Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.

6Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

8Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. 9The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

Self-Control – Last, and certainly not least, is the fruit of self-control. The cherry on top! Self-Control is the virtue of mastering one’s fleshly desires and passions and choosing to serve Yahweh with all our heart, soul, and spirit. To glorify Him in our conduct (also known as a bondservant to Christ). It is our ability to remain sober minded or self-restrained and pray as the days are evil. We do not conform to the ways of the world, but are being transformed by the renewing of our mind and we do the will of Him who sends us. Is it easy and comfortable? Not always. Do we always understand the whys? Nope. Do we walk by faith and not by sight? Yes, because we have tasted and seen the goodness of Yahweh and there is no turning back.

Titus 2:11-14 – 11For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

Beloved, we must be diligent and of sober spirit so as to strengthen and walk in fruit of the Spirit. The devil knows his days are short and he prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking those he can devour. He will only attack those who are a threat to him, for he knows we are co-heirs to the throne of Yahweh with our beloved bridegroom, Yeshua HaMashiach, King of all kings, Lord of all Lords, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. We must keep watch for we know not the hour or on which day our Lord Yehusa will come.
