The 24 Divisions of Priests (Of the Sons of Aaron)
Abijah = Yah is My Father (Luke 1)
Yahweh = I AM, I exist
I have been sitting on this one since December 2024 and waiting for the timing to share. How I even got here was actually through an Instagram post I saw towards the end of November known as the Luke December Challenge to learn the true meaning of Christmas (which we stopped celebrating over 20 years ago). I initially ignored it because of the fact that Luke has nothing to do with Christmas but does have everything to do with Yeshua, His life, ministry, and salvation of mankind. BUT…suddenly that still small voice within said, “Do it.” I asked Garry if he had interest in doing it with me and he said, “sure!”, so we began.
I guess I should share that during this time period I had been in a steady flow with the Holy Spirit for weeks with much revelation being shown to me in the Word, and as I would read something I wasn’t really familiar with I would hear the Holy Spirit say, “ask the question.” This would prove to be no different so I write this blog post to share what I learned on that very first day, December 1, 2024.
As we began to read Luke, chapter 1, we got down to verse 5 when I heard, “ask the question.” As you read verses 1-5, pay attention to the highlighted words for they will set the stage for what I am about to share:
Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to set in order a narrative of those things which have been fulfilled among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus, that you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed. (Luke 1:1-4)
Before going on, we see Luke was instructing Theophilus in the things which have been fulfilled (not to be fulfilled) and that he had perfect (or complete) understanding of all things from the very first (beginning – see teaching on Bereshit). Not only is Luke about to give an account of the gospel of Yeshua HaMashiach’s life and ministry, he shares that God (Yahweh) has had a plan from the very beginning of time (and there is an order or in this case an appointed time for all things).
There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah. (Luke 1:5)
Now these are the divisions of the sons of Aaron. The sons of Aaron were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazer, and Ithamar…(1 Chronicles 24:1)
We have read the book of Luke before and the focus for me when reading this scripture had been directed to the birth of John the Baptist (See post on the Most High Prophet); however, on this day I was to stop and ask the question, “what is the division of Abijah?”. I was taken to 1 Chronicles 24:7-18 when king David was preparing to build the temple and he established the divisions of the priests from the line of sons of Aaron. There is a powerful and orderly message within the message and the selection of the priests in the order given were not random to Yahweh. He knew the plans he had and although king David’s heart was pure in wanting to build the temple and reestablish the order, Yahweh already had a new order in the works for the salvation of mankind. We believe that once you see the message within the message and then continue reading the book of Luke, your perspective of Yeshua becomes clearer and more precious. Included are the 24 Hebrew names, their pronunciation, meaning, and then we put the message together. Open your Bible and read 1 Chronicles 24:1-18 to follow along.
Now the first lot fell to: (1 Chronicles 24:7-18)
First Division was Yehoyarib (Jehoiarib) Pronounced (yeh-ho-yaw-REEB), means Yahweh contends.
Division two was Yedidyah (Jedajah) Pronounced (yeh-dah-YAH’), means Yahweh has known.
Number three was Harim, Pronounced (khaw-REEM), which means dedicated, devote.
Division four was Sarim (Seorim) Pronounced (seh-o-REEM), which means barley.
The message within the message is saying, “Yahweh contends. He has known and dedicated the barley” Or Yahweh declaring , “I have contended. I have known and have dedicated the barley.”
Our understanding and belief based on scripture is the Hebrew feast days in the Old Covenant were a type and shadow of the New Covenant. We begin to see something extraordinary unfold of a hidden mystery proclaiming the coming Messiah. At the feast of first fruits in the Old Testament, barley was dedicated to Yahweh once a year. The high priest would cut the barley from the ground and at sunrise he would wave the barley before Yahweh, dedicating it to Him as the first fruits offering. He would ask for a great harvest in the fall, a harvest that would free the people and give them the victory that they looked for agriculturally, so that they could eat and enjoy and celebrate that Feast of Sukkot, the last feast of the year also known to the Israelites as the Feast of Tabernacles.
Yeshua the Messiah who was and is and is to come, is the first fruits of the resurrection. When He rose on the 3rd day from the grave, He fulfilled the First Fruits feast day. He is the barley that was cut from the earth. He rose from the dead, and was dedicated (as a wave offering) to Yahweh his Father, for all mankind (hence Him prophecying “the Harvest is ready, the laborers are few”.) Yahweh (I AM that I AM) is declaring to us from the very beginning, prophetically, in the first four names of these priests, “I’ve contended. I’ve known from the beginning. I have dedicated the barley.”
It reminds us of Genesis 1:1
“In the beginning Yahweh created the heavens and the earth. The earth was void and without form and a great darkness covered the deep etc…” as well as John 1:1 “in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with Yahweh, and the Word was Yahweh. He was in the beginning with Yahweh…”
Fifth Division was Malchiah (Malchijah) Pronounced (mal-kee-YAH) means Yahweh is King or the King is Yahweh.
Sixth Division was Yamin (Mijamin) Pronounced (mee-yaw-MEEN) means from the right hand. Yamin is Right Hand.
Seventh Division was Hakkoz – Pronounced (kohts) means The Thorn.
Eighth Division was Abijah, Pronounced (ah-bee-YAH) means Yah is my father or My Father is Yahweh. (see Luke 1)
Yah continues His proclamation with: “I AM King, and from My right hand comes the King of the trees, the thorn. I am His Father.”
The message within the message of the first eight divisions of the priests is Yahweh saying, “I’ve contended, I’ve known from the beginning. I have dedicated the barley. I AM King, and from My right hand comes the King of the trees, the thorn.”
What is “The Thorn?” We must consider that Yeshua is the thorn that is in Satan’s side. Many have only associated the phrase “as thorns in your side” as the inhabitants of the land (people who dwelt among the Israelites because they did not drive them out as commanded by Yah) In Judges, chapters 2 and 3 we’re told that the inhabitants would be left in place to test the Israelites to see who they served as their God, Yahweh or false gods.
Another association is the phrase, “a thorn in my side” Paul speaks of. In 2 Corinthians, Paul refers to the thorn in his side as the Judaizers who caused much trouble for him.
How Yeshua is “The Thorn” can be found in Judges, chapter 9, verse 14, when the trees are trying to decide which tree is going to be the king of all the trees. They choose the bramble bush. Regarding the trees of Israel, the bramble bush is the burning bush, and it is the only tree bush that has thorns in it. It is no coincidence that it’s what they used for the crown of thorns on the Messiah’s head, as He became the thorn in Satan’s side.
“I’ve contended, I’ve known from the beginning. I have dedicated the barley. I AM King, and from My right hand comes the King of the trees, the thorn. I Am His Father”
Ninth Division was Jeshua (Yeshua), Pronounced (yeh-SHOO-ah) means one who saves or salvation.
Tenth Division was Shecaniah (Shekinah), Pronounced (shek-an-YAH) means the one who dwells with Yah. This is the glory of Yahweh.
Eleventh Division Eliashiv (Eliashib), Pronounced (el-yaw-SHEEB) which means my God will return.
Twelfth Division was Jakim, Pronounced (JHEY-KihM) means Yah lifts up; to raise up; to stand.
Thirteenth Division was Huppah, Prounounced (KHOOP-pah) means a canopy or covering. Used for Jewish couples to stand under during their wedding ceremony symbolizing building a home together.
Fourteenth Division to Jeshebeab, Pronounced (yeh-sheh-BAHV) means dwelling of the Father.
Fifthteenth Division to Bilgah (from Balag), Pronounced (bil-GAH) which means bringing cheerfulness.
“I have contended. I have known from the beginning and I have dedicated the barley. I AM King, and from My right hand comes the King of the trees, the thorn. I Am His Father. Yeshua, the one who saves dwells with His Father.
Yeshua will return. He will raise up a canopy, a dwelling place of the Father, the kingdom of Yah, that will bring cheerfulness.”
Sixteenth Division to Immer, Pronounced (im-MER) means He has said.
Seventeenth Division to Hezir, Pronounced (khay-zeer) means swine. Refers to a family or clan of people.
Eighteenth Division to Happizzez, Pronounced (hap pihz’ zehz) means be broken.
Nineteenth Division to Pethahiah, Pronounced (peh-thakh-YAH) means Yah liberates.
Twenthieth Division to Jehezekel (Ezekiel), Pronounced (yeh-khez-KAY-el) which means Yah strengthens.
Twenty-first Division to Jachin, Pronounced (yah-KEEN) means He will establish.
Twenty-second Division to Gamul, Pronounced (gah-MOOL) means weaned, reward, recompense
Twenty-third Division to Delaiah , Pronounced (deh-lah-YAH) means Yah has raised or Yah has drawn.
Twenty-Fourth Division to Maaziah. Pronounced (mah-az-YAH) means Yah is my refuge or Yah is my strength Yahweh.
“He has said, swine, Gentiles, be broken from your chains, be freed by Yah, because I am going to strengthen you, and I will establish you. I will wean you. I have drawn you and I AM your safe refuge.
Note here that the word connotation of swine was the name of one of Aaron’s descendants and not a Gentile. Yahweh is speaking to both the tribes of Israel and the Gentiles to be set free from the chains holding them in bondage.
The message within the message of the 24 divisions of the priests in the day of David proclaim liberty and freedom in Yeshua HaMashiach, as He is raising up a holy nation of people, a royal priesthood. In this royal priesthood there is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither male nor female, neither slave or free person, as we shall all be one in One with the Almighty God, El Shaddai, by the blood of the One who saves us, Yeshua. That which was is and shall be again. He was in the beginning and will be til the end.
I have contended. I have known from the beginning. I have dedicated the barley.
I AM Yahweh, and from My right hand comes the King of the trees, the thorn. I will be His Father. Yeshua, the one who saves, dwells with His Father.
Yeshua will return. He will raise up a canopy, a dwelling place of the Father, the kingdom of Yah, that will bring cheerfulness.”
He has said, ‘swine, Gentiles, be broken from your chains, be freed by Yah, because I will strengthen you, and I will establish you.
I will wean you. I have drawn you and I am your safe refuge’, says the Lord God.”
In conclusion, we’d like to ask you a question. Based on the Word of Yahweh and the death and resurrection of our Savior, Yeshua HaMashiach, is the above message within the message a word of truth that speaks directly to your spirit? Yeshua is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. There is no other name by whom one can come to the Father and be saved (John 14:6)
Blessings to you in the name of Yeshua,
Garry and Norma
This is such a beautiful song.
