DO YOU BELIEVE IN YESHUA?

John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, and whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

Do you as a professed believer in Jesus Christ (Yeshua HaMashiach) truly understand what you are professing when you say you believe in Him as the Son of God?

It’s interesting that in the Book of John, Chapter 3, when Yeshua is talking to Nicodemus about having to be born again by the Spirit to enter the kingdom of God, that Nicodemus knew in his mind that what Yeshua was doing among the people (teachings and miracles) was from Yahweh God, but he just could not wrap his mind around the fact that Yeshua was God. Yeshua even told Nicodemus that if he couldn’t understand earthly things how would he ever be able to understand spiritual things. What’s curious to me is that Nicodemus was a very well respected Pharisee and teacher of the Law and though he appeared to have a form of godliness and knowledge of who Yahweh was, he was spiritually barren and blinded to the Truth. I share this as an example as to how traditions and doctrines of man can cause one to not see Yeshua when He is standing right before their very eyes. Just has Yeshua was face to face with Nicodemus, we must realize that He is everybit face to face with us and many just can’t see Him or refuse to consider that He sees and knows every aspect of our being. They have become spiritually blind. He knows where our heart is better than we do and He knows our spiritual state better than we do. (To learn about baptism by the Spirit, click here.)

I want to begin this blog post by emphasizing that this is in no way a message of condemnation, but rather a message of true conviction. We are living in a rather turbulent season across the globe and the fear of the Lord Yeshua (Jesus Christ) must be first and foremost in a Christian’s life. It is necessary to see what He is doing and we are to abide in Him if we want Him to abide in us. The pillars of our spiritual house are to be strong and steadfast and built on the solid foundation of Yeshua. (See Post
The Command To Build God’s House)

5“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. (John 15:5-8)

The Holy Spirit has been speaking to me in several ways over the past few months and He has made it clear (and is still revealing) that His eyes are upon every single person that professes to believe in Him but does not bear fruit of such. He is specifically looking at sins that lead to death (spiritually/eternally) such as presumptuous sins, sexual immorality, having a outward form of godliness but no power thereof, pagan practices within the church, traditions of men (doctrines) vs. sound doctrine of Jesus Christ. Yes, He sees the false teachers, the false prophets, the false doctrines leading His people astray. Yes, He is exposing them, but will also expose those who follow them.

Yeshua has revealed through His Spirit of Truth that there are a multitude of professing believers in Him who do not even know what “Believe In Him” represents, because His gospel has been so watered down, twisted, and blatently disregarded. The church of man has become a house of 2 Timothy 3:1-5. It’s time to wake up, people of God, and shake off the dust! (See the 4-part teachings on “What Church Are You? )

Let’s begin with the true biblical definition of ‘Believe In’ Him. Once you understand it, one of two things is going to happen:

1. You will have a peaceful assurance that you are indeed a true beleiver in Yeshua HaMashiach and you will want to share this with as many people you can.

2. You will have a spirit of conviction that will lead you to repentance and turn back to Yeshua, with the realization that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made you free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:1-2)

HEBREW DEFINITION OF BELIEVE

To “believe” in Hebrew uses the root א-מ-נ (‘a-m-n’), most commonly seen as the verb להאמין (le’ha’amin) for “to believe/trust,” and the noun אמונה (emunah) for “faith/trust,” emphasizing steadfastness, reliability, and loyalty, not just intellectual assent, connected to words like amen (truly/so be it) and emet (truth)]

Key Hebrew Terms:

  • להאמין (Le’ha’amin): The infinitive verb “to believe” or “to trust”.
  • אמונה (Emunah): The noun meaning “faith,” “trust,” or “steadfastness”.
  • אמן (‘Aman): The verb root meaning to be firm, support, be faithful, or to trust, as seen in Genesis 15:6.

Nuance of ‘Believe’:

  • It’s deeper than just accepting something as true; it implies a strong, enduring trust and reliability in someone or something, like a pillar that won’t fall.
  • This concept is linked to the word אמן (Amen), meaning “so be it” or “truly,” which is a declaration of affirmation and trust, not just agreement.

Example in Scripture (Genesis 15:6):

  • “And he believed in the Lord, and He counted it to him as righteousness” uses the root ‘aman’, showing Abraham’s deep, reliable trust in God.

Notice the definitive root word connection to the word ‘Aman’ (Amen), which is a declaration of affirmation (or profession) and it also implies a strong reliability in Yeshua—like a Pillar that won’t fall. Think about how often you pray and end your prayers with ‘Amen’ without having the steadfast faith and enduring trust in Yeshua to receive that prayer. It often has become a habit rather than belief. Also, think of Abraham’s journey from being called out of Ur of Chaldea (all Pagan worship) and having absolutely no idea where he was going, but his belief was so strong in Yahweh because he knew His voice and he knew that his, and all those with him, lives were in the very hand of Almighty God. Do you realize he traveled 1,000 miles across the country having no idea what was before them? He was a pillar and he stood on Yah’s promise. He had to have faith and abide in Yahweh in every single circumstance, trial, victory, and test of obedience, even when it made no sense in the natural to him. Beloved, it is this “believing in the Lord” kind of belief that is counted as righteousness to Yahweh, and he wants this from all of us. Let’s now look at the Greek definition of Believe.

******************************

GREEK DEFINITION

To “believe” in Greek (pisteuo) and Hebrew (aman/*emunah) means more than just intellectual agreement; it involves deep trust, reliance, and active faithfulness, connecting to concepts of being established, supported, and steadfast in God’s promises, requiring a lifestyle commitment rather than just a mental assent. The New Testament’s pisteuo builds on the Hebrew roots of aman, meaning to be firm, reliable, and to support, emphasizing an ongoing, active demonstration of faith and trust in God’s character and truth.

Greek: Pisteuo (πιστεύω)

  • Meaning: To trust, have faith in, rely on, be persuaded, entrust oneself.
  • Nuance: It’s not just believing that something is true but believing in someone or something, involving commitment and reliance, like entrusting your life to someone.
  • Root: Comes from pistis (faith/fidelity) and peíthō (to persuade).

Hebrew: Aman (אָמַן) / Emunah (אֱמוּנָה)

  • Meaning: To be firm, stable, established, reliable, support, confirm, be faithful.
  • Nuance: Emet (truth) shares the same root, linking belief to reality and steadfastness; emunah (faith) is an active, demonstrated loyalty and fidelity, as seen in Moses’ steady hands in Exodus.
  • Application: To “believe” in Hebrew means to be established in the Lord and to live in a way that reflects that stability and trust.

The Combined Understanding

  • When the New Testament (written in Greek) speaks of believing, it’s deeply rooted in the Hebrew concept from the Old Testament.
  • Therefore, biblical belief is a holistic concept:
    • Mental: Agreeing with truth (John 3:16).
    • Emotional: Deep trust and confidence.
    • Volitional/Behavioral: An active, lifelong reliance, loyalty, and practice that confirms that trust (John 6:47).

Notice the association here to the human spirit, soul, and body and sanctification:

  • Spirit – receives the Truth;
  • Soul – trusts and has confidence in that Truth (i.e, soul submits to the Spirit); and
  • Body – our conduct/behavior being the fruit of lifelong reliance, loyalty and practice of the Truth (not just when it is convenient or when things are going good for us. Nor is it like a buffet line where we pick and choose what we want to believe so as to justify our sins). In John 14:6, Yeshua tells us that He is the way, the truth, and life; and, in 1 Thessalonians 5:23, Paul says: May the God of Peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Last, but certainly not least, we will now look at the Paleo-Hebrew definition of Believe.

******************************

PALEO-HEBREW MEANING

Aman (AMaN) Aleph, Mem and Nun (Aleph – strength/leader, – Mem water/truth, Nun – seed/life/fish) In order for a seed to germinate and produce new life identical to its parent source, it must have water. Think of how seeds carry DNA. If we have been made in the image of Elohim (Father, Son, Spirit) and are in a fallen state, Yeshua is the Way to our being transformed back into the like image of our Strength and Leader (HIM) and we must BELIEVE IN HIM or we remain in the fallen state.

The primary Paleo Hebrew root for “believe” is ‘Aman’ (meaning to be firm, stable, or trustworthy, implying a deep-seated trust and reliance, not just intellectual assent) and is linked to concepts like truth (emet) and faithfulness (Emunah) and trust (Batah).

Key Hebrew Words & Concepts:

  • ‘Aman’ (אמן): The foundational root. Believe
    • Meaning: To be firm, sure, established, to trust, be faithful, endure, or be convinced.
    • Usage: When Abraham “believed” God (Genesis 15:6), he became firm in his commitment, like a peg driven into solid ground. Assuredly, establishment, faithful, right, sure, true, verity:

Truth: ( אמת ) Emeth: Strong’s #571 – assuredly, establishment, faithful, right, sure, true, verity

Contracted from ‘aman; stability; (figuratively) certainty, truth, trustworthiness — assured(-ly), establishment, faithful, right, sure, true (-ly, -th), verity.

Faithfulness: ((אֱמוּנָה ) Emunah: Strong’s #530- Faith, trust, loyalty, often implying active, consistent action. Strongly anchored.

Trust: ( בָּטַח ) Batah: Strong’s #H982 – Have confidence, security, to be bold.

  • The Core Idea: Biblical belief rooted in Aman’ is about deep conviction, stability, and reliance, forming a strong foundation, much like a tent peg firmly in the earth, signifying a personal relationship and steadfast commitment rather than just a mental agreement

******************************

To summarize the biblical definition of “Believe,” we see it is not a mental state or mental agreement, or something that sounds socially good to say because it makes us look like we have a form a godliness. Rather, to believe is having our pillar of faith in Yeshua HaMashiach strong, being steadfast in our commitment to Him and not letting anything or anyone shake us (our spiritual house) off of its firm foundation. We trust Yeshua, we know His voice, we walk in a deep conviction of who we are In Him, and we live our life accordingly.

We have brought home the definition of Believe, but now let’s look at the definition of “In” as it pertains to “Believe In Him.”

DEFINITION OF “IN”

Strong’s Concordance #1519

Lexical Summary

eis: into, to, towards, for, in order to

Original Word: εἰς
Part of Speech: Preposition
Transliteration: eis
Pronunciation: [ice]
Word Origin: [a primary preposition]

1. to or into (indicating the point reached or entered), of place, time
2. (figuratively) to or into a purpose (result, etc.)
{also in adverbial phrases; Often used in composition with the same general import, but only with verbs (etc.) expressing motion (literally or figuratively)}

1519 eis (a preposition) – properly, into (unto) –literally, “motion into which” implying penetration(“unto,” “union”) to a particular purposeor result.

Notice the association with “into” implying “unto” and “union.” So when a person professes to be a believer in Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus Christ), that person is making a declaration and implying that he/she is abiding (in union with) in Him and walking in or moving faithfully toward becoming one with Him as He is with the Father. Abiding in Him is the act that He and His Spirit are incarnate within your spirit, soul, and body, and your conduct bears fruit in accordance to His will for the calling of which you have been called.

When new believers get baptized, they are making a declaration before Yahweh that they are turning away from their old life (willing to die to self and selfish desires), and are moving forward as a new creation in Christ Jesus with the goal of fully becoming one with Him and the Spirit—in other words, abiding in Him and Him abiding in them. He then baptizes that person with His Spirit when their heart is in right alignment and that is the point in time when what was once the promise (or seat) of the Holy Spirit has now become the filling of (or indwelling of) and the two become incarnate in you.

Having clarity and conviction about the truth, one can accept His grace to do a self examination about where his/her relationship with the Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit stands, and how one’s christian life is a reflection of His righteousness. I strongly believe that many have some areas of improvement to work on because we do live in a time where spiritual senses have become dull and they are not walking in the full fear (reverence) of the Lord, allowing Him to truly be their guide and banner of righteousness. Our flesh will always win the battle over our soul and spirit, if we do not surrender fully and discipline ourselves to let the Holy Spirit have dominion over our spirit, soul, and body. Yeshua is gracious to forgive when we confess our sin, and we must be gracious to forgive ourselves for not knowing. The fear of the Lord Yeshua is the beginning of knowledge. Read again the verses in John 15:

5“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. (John 15:5-8)

In Conclusion:

I’ll end with Romans 10, and although there are many scriptures similar to it, it is Yeshua’s will that when you read His word, you will see it in a new light of what His definition of “Believe In Him” is, and allow His seed (word) to germinate and become fruitful in your life so that others will see an ambassador of Yeshua and not a hypocrite. Too many churches tell people to repeat the “sinners prayer” or something like it, and say “if you said the prayer and believe it in your heart then you are saved,” but too few preach repentance and what “Believe in” truly means. Multitudes of precious souls are walking through life in ignorance thinking they are saved, but lacking the fruit thereof and not being born again.

The Word Brings Salvation
(Isaiah 65:1–16)
(Isaiah 52:7)

1Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is for their salvation. 2For I testify about them that they are zealous for God, but not on the basis of knowledge. 3Because they were ignorant of God’s righteousness and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. 4For Christ is the end of the law, to bring righteousness to everyone who believes.

5For concerning the righteousness that is by the law, Moses writes: “The man who does these things will live by them.” 6But the righteousness that is by faith says: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ (that is, to bring Christ down) 7or, ‘Who will descend into the Abyss?’ (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).”

8But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9that if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with your heart you believe and are justified, and with your mouth you confess and are saved.

11It is just as the Scripture says: “Anyone who believes in Him will never be put to shame.” 12For there is no difference between Jew and Greek: The same Lord is Lord of all, and gives richly to all who call on Him, 13for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

14How then can they call on the One in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe in the One of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach? 15And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

16But not all of them welcomed the good news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?” 17Consequently, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

18But I ask, did they not hear? Indeed they did:

Their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.”

19I ask instead, did Israel not understand? First, Moses says: “I will make you jealous by those who are not a nation; I will make you angry by a nation without understanding.” 20And Isaiah boldly says:

I was found by those who did not seek Me; I revealed Myself to those who did not ask for Me.”

21But as for Israel he says: “All day long I have held out My hands to a disobedient and obstinate people.”

CLOSING PRAYER

Father Yahweh, I come boldly before your throne of grace with all praise and thanksgiving unto You. I pray for each person who reads this post to have the spiritual ears to hear and eyes to see what your Spirit is saying to the church. May you be glorified by those who have walked in ignorance or spiritual blindness and have made the decision to return to You with all their heart, mind, and strength. Your word is clear in Romans 10:14, “How then can they call on the One in whom they have not believed.” I pray you will guide and direct them every step of the way through the narrow path that leads to everlasting life in and with You.

I thank You for each and every person who is called by Your name and I pray for time to be redeemed and sanctified, land to be healed, and Your body restored, as its many members live out their profession of faith in You. In Yeshua’s name I pray and believe. Amen!
